I am not a celebrity or a wealthy person. I am simply a regular person, much like you, who cannot look away from the devastation we’ve witnessed for nearly two years. Like you, I have been horrified, heartbroken, and overwhelmed by the sheer number of families suffering in Gaza.
Abdalkarim is a devoted husband and father of three small children. With the help of kind donors, he once surpassed his first fundraising goal and raised enough money to evacuate. But just as hope appeared within reach, the borders closed. His dream of safety was shattered overnight.
Since then, Abdalkarim and his family have been trapped—surviving nearly 700 days in a tent, enduring extreme heat, hunger, injuries, bombings, and gunfire. The funds that were once meant for freedom were quickly consumed by the desperate cost of staying alive.
And yet, even through all of this, Abdalkarim has found ways to keep smiling. He has gained a following on social media for his humor and resilience—using laughter to give his children moments of normalcy and hope. He has been a light to many of us during this dark time.
